La Pastorela / Shepherds’ Play: A Tradition Reborn took place on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011. In colonial Mexico, the seven point star piñata was introduced by Spanish missionaries to signify the seven deadly sins and is still an important part of the Christmas holiday. Breaking the piñata is symbolic of overcoming temptation by the Devil while being blindfold symbolizes blind faith. The piñata is on display throughout December in MOSTHistory’s Grand Lobby.
