“A northerner”: (or, person that resides north of the Texas state line), and moves into a warm south Texas climate for the winter. This act is typically achieved by means of a doublewide, mobile home, motor home, travel trailer, recreational vehicle or 5th wheel.
These “Northerners” have been seen trading in their snow shovels for golf clubs, parkas for shorts, ski caps for sombreros, and snow shoes for cowboy boots once they reach the Rio Grande.
On occasion, “Winter Texans” consume large volumes of Margaritas vs. their homeland drink of hot chocolate. This tradition makes them assemble into a line or square dance depending on the quantity swigged.
These “Winter Texans” claim to be retired however; they live very hectic lifestyles running from event-to-event (perhaps they are really Roadrunners in disguise).
South Texas is best known for its humid subtropical climate and mild winters, bicultural mix, sandy beaches, Palm trees and citrus (all of which are conducive to fiestas and siestas).
Northern folk enjoy el calor by comparison to the 80 degree below wind chills back home. And, Texans look forward to their return each year! Bienvenido!
