Two miles of trails await you, traversing through 33 acres of native Tamulipan Thornscrub habitat. This is an important site, both for wildlife and for people, as less than 3% of the native habitat remains in the Rio Grande Valley - one of the most ecologically diverse regions in the entire United States. Our site boasts over 200 species of birds, 80 species of butterflies, and 20 species of reptiles and amphibians, including the endangered Texas Indigo Snake and Texas Tortoise. Mammal sightings have included coyote, gray fox, and javelina, though cottontail rabbits, opossums, and raccoons are more common sightings. Fall blooms produce a haven for dozens of butterfly species. Bird feeding stations are maintained from November through March, and provide excellent viewing opportunities. Binoculars and children’s nature adventure kits are available to borrow free of charge. We welcome you to walk, run, watch and photograph wildlife, and picnic during your visit. Prohibited activities include bicycling, grilling, smoking, and loud music. No pets are permitted. All visitors must remain on trails.
