Yes, his official name is Matthew, but please don’t call him that. “Matt” is perfect. Matt IS the Accounting Department at Welcome Home, RGV. Besides taking care of our bookkeeping, taxes, payroll, and all other accounting-related matters, Matt is the person to contact when you have questions about your invoices, as well as accounts payable and receivable.
Matt has lived in the Rio Grande Valley for most of his 26 years, except for some time away for college and work. In fact, his driver’s license has never had an outside-of-McAllen address. Why did Matt choose to return to the Valley to live? “Because it’s home. My family is here, and I think it’s just a great place to live,” he said.
Matt can’t choose one book he would call his favorite, but the one he has likely read the most number of times is Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card. He does have a favorite quotation, which happens to be the last stanza of William Earnest Henley’s poem, Invictus:
It matters not how straight the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate;
I am the captain of my soul.
Matt is our resident triathlete, so it’s no surprise that his favorite spot in the Valley is Valley Running Company on Dove and Bicentennial in McAllen. “I’ve made some fantastic new friends at Valley Running Company, running with them over the past year and a half,” Matt said, “while also making significant improvements to myself.”
Numbers guy, Valley guy, reader, and triathlete. That’s our very own Matt Davis.
