Volunteer 1st Responders support the medical emergency needs of retirement community residents. 1st Responders respond to resident emergency calls, assess the situation, provide immediate medical assistance if appropriate, gather medications and important documents (prior to the arrival of Paramedics/EMT), secure the residence and notify emergency contacts. 1st Responders often act as a bridge between residents and health care providers, by assisting residents in seeking further medical attention.
Welcome Home RGV has developed a 1st Responder Leadership Program and provides a monthly educational & networking program for the leaders of organized 1st Responder programs, and for those communities that would like to form a program of their own. Most volunteer 1st Responders have some sort of medical background, such as retired nurses, physicians, EMT, etc.
There is no cost to the retirement community to participate at the base level in the 1st Responder Leadership Program. There are, however additional benefits and services provided to the communities that are part of the Welcome Home, RGV network.
